Happy Weekend: Felix Forest Photography

I was speaking with a friend the other day and we both agreed how we are still amazed at the inspiration one can find daily by clicking through the Internet. Personally, I still can't get over how lucky we are to be able to discover inspiring creatives and their work each and everyday. So, what could be a more perfect way to kick off the weekend than by doing just that, namely with the photographic work of Felix Forest. Felix is a top notch photographer based in Australia and he regularly shoots for one of my favourite interiors titles, Real Living. Let's meet him through three quick questions, shall we?

What journey did you take into professional photography?
I started shooting with my first camera when I was 13, first with an interest was to ‘document’ things but my love for photography was confirmed when I read the book Rapporteurs de guerre by French war photographer Patrick Chauvelnot. I'm not a war photographer but I have a fascination for calm and destruction, and my art series often have elements of it. I had a conventional education in France that didn’t involve much creativity apart from drawing classes as I was studying a bachelor of Economics and Finance, so I started taking black and white film processing classes before I started assisting other photographers.

What keeps you inspired?
Photography is an ever learning passion, it keeps inspiring me as each door you open leads to ten new doors and it keeps unfolding and each idea leads to another one and another one. My partner Dina Broadhurst has a background in Interior Design and I am very lucky to be able to work with her regularly as we find interest in very similar creative enterprises.

My work has appeared (or will appear soon!) in Vogue Living, Inside Out, Belle, Real Living, Vogue Australia, Grazia, Grand Designs, Habitus, Vogue Brazil, and COUCH. I also shoot for advertising clients including, IKEA, Coco Republic, Murobond, Broached Commission, Fenton and Fenton, MCM House, Baye and Fyfe.

Magnus Anesund Photography: Three Colour Stories

Scrolling through the inspiring porfolio of interior and still life photographer Magnus Anesund had me thinking how his photographs each told different colour stories. From Blue Hues and Multi Colour to Red and Pink, the spaces and stills he has captured provide a wealth of colourful inspiration. I found myself drawn to the colour block bedside table and the Duke Blue hue of that cabinet. Which of the colour stories do you like?

When Will invited me to guest blog, I thought, "hm, what can I blog about?" First of all, I'm not good with words. Secondly, Will's blog posts are always so fun to read with all the pictures and colours. So instead of pressuring myself, I decided to just use a simple 'formula': Will = colours. Bonnie = photography. Instantly I remembered the beautiful images from Jeffrey Becom. Here, I picked some of my favorite images to share with you. His work is always filled with intense colours that are so full of life, which reminds me of Will.

Admiring the talent of other creative souls is one of my main inspirations; I can't fail to be inspired by the great work of a stylist, photographer, artist or designer. Heck, even good cinematography gets my creativity all a flow. Sometimes this can be overwhelming because I feel awash with inspiring ideas and thoughts, but nine times out of ten, it's a good thing. This past weekend I went to check out Debi Treloar's portfolio after being impressed with her photography work in Bazaar Style by Selina Lake. I loved what I saw, especially some of the bright bursts of summary hues and warming, Moroccan-flavoured locations. Yum. Please have a peek at her portfolio; there's photography of food, interiors, lifestyle and more...you can easily loose an hour or two over there. Of course, my total fave is the vignette (2) of pop vases and sky blue wall (I'd love this in my hallway). Which one of these is your fave?

Behind every glossy magazine page, swoonful styling and sexy portfolio there's usually a hugely talented photographer. Angus Fergusson is one of those talented people who produces brilliant images from our much loved clicky things. Before you take a peek at the gorgeous interiors he's photographed, I just want to say thank you so much for all your comments and kind words this week. Hearing from so many liked minded people really makes my day and always inspires me further. Whatever you do this weekend, I hope you have a blast and I'm already looking forward to seeing you back here on Monday for more tasty treats!

{Interiors Inspiration: Nautical Photography}

I've never been a fan of beach-themed bathroom accessories, but these prints from coastal interiors store Florestine are a totally different ball game. Modern, quirky, stylish and colourful, these photographs would be ideal for a bathroom, conservatory or even a garden room. My favourite is the fishing baskets (5) against the red building. Which one do you like best?

My Mum has a serious addiction to recipe books (sorry, Mum!) and for as long as I can remember her kitchen has been bursting at the seems with them. It certainly makes present shopping easy as I know she will always love a recipe book, but secretly, I'm also quite a fan of them for gaining inspiration. Be it the colourful, vibrant and cultural themes from the pages of Jamie Magazine, or the delicate, yet indulgent imagery from a Nigella book, I always find something that inspires me. The rich red of a pudding or the crackling of hot caramel - so many times the colour of one of my rooms has come from a recipe book. I think styling and photography for food and interiors often go hand-in-hand and boy do they make for some gorgeous imagery. Holly Jolliffe's photography is no exception and her online portfolio is perfect for escaping into for a dreamy five minutes.

{Taking time for you}

I don't think I'll ever tire of that Friday feeling. Sometimes it starts on a Thursday afternoon, knowing that the weekend is within sight, and sometimes it comes in a flurry as the working week finishes on Friday afternoon. Either way, it's so lovely to know that the weekend is stretched out before you; to take time to to invest in you, your family...your home.

I saw this novelty stamp by WhippetGrey this morning and it made me think about how I get caught up in the daily rush of working in the city. I look forward to taking time at the weekend, but what resonates with me about this stamp is that I must remind myself that I'm not too busy to spend time with those I love, or even just to invest in what I have. I'm going to try and make the most of every weekend in 2010, remembering not to be too busy!

My favourite find this week, is ParisDailyPhoto - Eric, the self-titled 'friendly Parisian' posts a picture he takes of Paris every day: simple, charming and a great insight into an even greater city. I especially liked Eric's image of a Parisian Cafe called Cafe Brebant; how cute are those lamps?!
