Heart Home Mag Sneak Peek: Bright Decor

I'm super excited to be sharing this sneak peek of Heart Home magazine's Winter issue ahead of the full launch tomorrow. Isn't this shoot a bright delight?! I'm in love with the sophisticated take on a multi-hued palette, which has been grounded by a chic grey base palette. The inspiring scheme has been expertly pulled together resulting in a balance between the three key elements - colour, pattern and texture. The mix of brights are tempered by sleek grey tones; the graphic patterns add visual interest and break up the individual hues; and texture is introduced through cable knit throws. Whilst yesterday's post on a multi-colour bedroom scheme felt ideal for the summer months, I think this is the perfect take on a similar palette for winter. What do you think, friends? Be sure to check out the full Winter issue of Heart Home magazine when it launches tomorrow.

Colour Palette: Multi-Coloured Bedroom

It can be a lot of fun to embrace a rainbow of colours when decorating and the results can be stunning. While the rules that apply to creating a complementary scheme go out the window, it's still important to consider which of your chosen hues you apply to certain parts of the scheme. To create a final look that looks stylish and considered it's best to pick one hue that you will introduce throughout all the elements of the scheme. So, taking this bedroom as an example, we can see how turquoise has been introduced in the artwork, the bedding and on the side table. This gentle consistency brings visual cohesion between all the elements of the room, meaning the look comes together as one, rather than looking like a jumble sale of different colours. Now, could we please discuss how fun that turquoise cage lamp is? I love it!

Announcing: Mr. Bazaar & The Simple Things Magazine

Have you heard of The Simple Things magazine? It's a relatively new title that has launched in multiple countries across the World and Mr. Bazaar was lucky enough to secure a contributing role! This was a big step for me in my career, so I'm very grateful to the editors for believing in my work and trusting me to curate their shopping pages. I think many of you will agree that taking on a new project is always nerve-wracking - I sure do! All I could do was throw myself into the features and work my little socks off. I did just that and, well, I'm not only proud of the results but also to be working with the team from an early phase in the magazine's history. I realised the other day that the current Holiday issue of Sweet Paul magazine is my third, which means I've been working with Paul and his team for three years - time flies! I find it so rewarding to see how far the magazine has come and I know that The Simple Things is also destined for huge things; there's such a buzz about the title here in the UK. If you are in the States you can pick up a copy in Barnes & Noble; here's a list of places you can find the magazine worldwide.

Each issue is split into three sections - Dawn, Day and Dusk - which take you through simple ideas to make the most out of your day. The magazine is all about enjoying the smaller things; the things that matter most in life. It's about slowing down, making the most of where you live and enjoying the company of friends and family. So, yesterday, I thought about this notion and curated a small collection of simple little things that are making me happy right now. I'd love to know: what simple things in life are making you happy right now?

Holiday Decorating In Mr. Bazaar's Kitchen

Remember how I talked about this West Elm kitchen inspiring my holiday decorating last weekend? Well, I took heed of my inspirations and decided to bring some festive cheer into my own kitchen. I swapped out some of the non-holiday pieces (shared here last month) on my freestanding kitchen unit for some quintessential Christmas finds. I've not reinvented the holiday decorating wheel here, but simply stuck to the tried and tested classics for the season: think candy candy red and white stripes, playful polka dots and whimsical Scandi touches. For me Christmas is the time of year we can all embrace the kid within us, after all wasn't it the most magical time of year when you were growing up? With this in mind I always try to include some charming youthful touches to my decorating, hence the lovely Pixie I bought in Copenhagen. (In fact, a friend I was travelling with joked that I had to buy it because I had worn nothing but an array of fairisle jumpers for the whole trip!) That said, I've still kept the look practical because this is a working space. With minimal foliage and no lights, I used everyday items from within the red palette and stripe or polka dot patterns to create a cohesive look. Meanwhile, leaving free space in the centre means I can still use the surface for food preparation. I'm smitten with how this corner of my kitchen has turned out! What do you think, friends?

Happy Weekend: Festive Red Kitchen

As there's only a week to go until December hits I'm well and truly feeling the festive spirit! I normally don't start decorating my place until the 1st December, but I'm not sure I can resist taking a walk through the woods this weekend to pick up some festive foliage to start placing around the apartment. Truth be told, I don't know why I'm even pretending that this might not happen because I even tried to get some winter berries from my local florist last weekend, but I was too early! What can I say? Mr. Bazaar loves the festive season! Whilst I can realistically bring smaller decorative pieces into my home, I don't have space for this beautiful SMEG fridge I spotted over at West Elm, but that won't stop me dreaming - isn't it fab? In fact, the whole kitchen space it's styled in is rather dreamy. I have very similar storage unit to this, except in black metal, and it's given me some styling ideas to try out over the weekend. How about your weekend? Will you be doing anything fun and festive? Have a lovely one, friends!

Colour Palette: Trad Meets Modern Bedroom

This week's Colour Palette post is a bedroom scheme that successfully fuses together a number of different styles: safari chic, modern bright and traditional elegance. Three looks you wouldn't normally expect to see together, right? Well, that's what I find so exciting about interiors, those spaces and schemes that surprise and delight with their unexpected elements. So what part has colour played in fusing these styles together? Well, a lick of true blue paint transforms a traditional four poster bed into a modern statement piece; a french rose fabric brings new life to a tufted chair; and neutral shades of gold and brown used across textured pieces like a hide rug and bare wooden furniture ground the brighter elements of the scheme. Which elements of this bedroom do you like and why? Have you ever fused different styles together when decorating? P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers, I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

Mr. Bazaar Is Off On An Adventure With...

...IKEA - For the next few days Mr.B is colour spotting in Sweden by indulging in all things IKEA-related. As always, I've packed my camera for this special trip, so just like the boat trip I took with them recently, you can expect a full round up of the adventure right here on Bright.Bazaar! While I'm away, I'll be sure to pop by the blog to ensure you still get your colour fix(!), and in the meantime I'll leave with these colourful and quintessentially IKEA spaces from their latest catalogue. Eeeep, I'm so excited!

Mr. Bazaar Goes On A Boat Trip With IKEA!

Whenever I talk to someone about IKEA they always have a special memory associated with the brand. Perhaps it was the joy of taking a friend to the store for the first time and seeing their amazement at the sheer vastness of it all, or maybe they remember the excitement of their trip to kit out their student digs or first home. Either way, I think it's true that many of us have some affiliation to IKEA; the expansion of their premium PS range - which features IKEA design classics from the last 60 years - can only lengthen this relationship.

Well, last week I was lucky enough to experience IKEA's temporary floating market which they created on boats along the Regent's Canal in London. After passing through a striking monochrome themed tent decked out with their latest fabric designs and Lappljung collection (you can see more of that collection here, if you like) I jumped onto a boat and I was off on my colour adventure. As we floated down the river and passed each colour themed boat, I learned that IKEA is placing a big emphasis on personalisation this season; whether it's mix and matching different coloured doors onto a storage unit, or painting a chest of drawers, they want people to feel inspired to make pieces their own. I tried to take some snaps as we went around but as we were floating and moving it was hard to get great shots, but I hope you feel you were able to join me in spirit on this fun event! Which boat catches your eye most, friends?

Happy Weekend: Farmers' Market Colours

A week or so ago I was walking through Bath when I happened to pass by Jamie Oliver's first UK deli. The moment I saw the deli I stopped in my tracks as my Colour Inspiration alarm bells started to sound! Rain had been falling all morning but the skies had begun to clear and the farmer's market style display of fruit and vegetables outside looked so crisp and fresh. Vibrant yellow tomatoes and citrus bright lemons flirted with Mr. Bazaar's colour-loving lens (I mean, seriously, I was in heaven); the remnants of the morning rainfall gently rolled off the fruits. A chef from Jamie's nearby restaurant came to collect some produce and we ended up chatting for ten minutes, discussing the simple pleasures of fresh produce and the recipes each variety inspired us to make. It was one of those unexpected, lovely moments of shared enthusiasm with a complete stranger. After the chef went back to work, I moved inside, my imagination caught by the bold, typographic and colourful packaging that graced many of the products. I admired the synergy between inside and out, fresh and packaged, interior design and food - notice how the red stools tie in with the produce and the packaging. In all, I must have spent at least an hour soaking up the atmosphere of this tiny deli yet it felt like all of five minutes. I left feeling inspired by the two colour stories - the exotic and primary brights of the produce and packaging, and the comforting, calm hues of the rustic interior. I hope you find some colour inspiration this weekend, friends!

Home Tour: Relaxed Swedish Country Style

As much as I enjoyed the heat of last weekend in London, I'm also looking forward to the cosy days of Autumn that stretch out ahead. This country home in Sweden feels so perfect for this new season as layers of comfortable textiles are generously applied throughout the space. Plus, the red and white colour palette in the kitchen area (which actually flows more subtly through the rest of the home - see the bedspread and rug in the living room) feels festive and gently evocative of the holiday season. I always admire homeowners who embrace colour and pattern with stylish abandon, and this is one such example where both elements are used in abundance without going overboard. My favourite room is the living room, where the generous helping of natural light has been tempered with layers of linens, interesting artworks and up-cycled palette furniture, in turn keeping the space cosy and inviting. What do you like about this home?
