Whenever I talk to someone about IKEA they always have a special memory associated with the brand. Perhaps it was the joy of taking a friend to the store for the first time and seeing their amazement at the sheer vastness of it all, or maybe they remember the excitement of their trip to kit out their student digs or first home. Either way, I think it's true that many of us have some affiliation to IKEA; the expansion of their premium PS range - which features IKEA design classics from the last 60 years - can only lengthen this relationship.
Well, last week I was lucky enough to experience IKEA's temporary floating market which they created on boats along the Regent's Canal in London. After passing through a striking monochrome themed tent decked out with their latest fabric designs and Lappljung collection (you can see more of that collection here, if you like) I jumped onto a boat and I was off on my colour adventure. As we floated down the river and passed each colour themed boat, I learned that IKEA is placing a big emphasis on personalisation this season; whether it's mix and matching different coloured doors onto a storage unit, or painting a chest of drawers, they want people to feel inspired to make pieces their own. I tried to take some snaps as we went around but as we were floating and moving it was hard to get great shots, but I hope you feel you were able to join me in spirit on this fun event! Which boat catches your eye most, friends?

Oh my, how fun! I thing the black & white boats are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh this is stunning! My favorite is that Pink boat! Are all of the products seen on the boat already available in stores?
ReplyDeleteYes, most of these products from the new collection are in store!
DeleteHah, cool thing! Fun they made all those variations, that's what I like most about it. Looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love it!! How much fun & creative! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw your pics from this event on instagram a few days ago and it looked absolutely amazing! the merchandising is insanely good. as is your purple jeans and jacket ensemble - so awesome.
ReplyDeleteWow! How thrilling! Such a unique idea, I love that ikea is jumping out of their own "box"! I'm loving black and white right now (btw, did you notice it all over the runway for fashion week?) so if I had to choose, it would the black boat!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday, Will!
Looks like so much fun - lucky you! By the way, you looked like you belonged on the purple boat that day, rocking those pants and jacket!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteoh. my. goodness! love the natural, white, and blue boats! this is incredible. love it!
ReplyDeleteoh this is so incredibly genius - one of the best presentations I've ever seen. It was a trip around the world one marketplace at a time.....
ReplyDeleteIkea is my happy place, so when I see this I am even more happier! That blue boat is just divine - I want EVERYTHING on it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a novel way of showcasing what they have in store... I love it.
So fun and creative! I'm thinking I like the pink and blue boats. I'm hoping we can get some of these products here in Canada.
ReplyDeletewow now I'm extremely jealous! What a fun boat trip you had there MR! I actually don't know which boat I like the most ... and you know this doesn't happen to me often. I love elements of each of the boats and LOVE your outfit!
ReplyDeleteI owned an IKEA PS sofa bed from years ago and it's still one of my favourite pieces of furniture. The slipcover makes it so easy for me to switch things up and since it has only been in production for one year, I now have a list of friends who are more than happy to get it off my hands!
Plz give Igor a big hug from me when you see him in London :)
these are AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteFor me IKEA is the special treat that has to b e part of any trip abroad. We do not have an IKEA in Sri Lanka so this little trip whenever I go overseas is a must! I always buy something, however small.
ReplyDeleteOk now this event looks like it was a whole lot of fun! A floating market? How cool! It looks so colourful and lively and really shows off IKEA's new range in such a unique {and memorable} way xx
ReplyDeleteThis is the coolest thing ever. I love all the boats!! Are they sailing this floating market anywhere else?
ReplyDeleteHi Amber! I think it was just a one off event in London! :)
Deletewow Will how funny time!!!!!how much i love IKEA!This project is gorgeous!!!!a floating market! how smart!thank you Will!!!:)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun Will! Thanks for sharing with us here. A colourful trip indeed! I like that Ikea is emphasizing on personality. It's true that Ikea pieces can become repetitive as they are so accessible, but making them your own with a tweak here and there is a great way to tailor to and express your own tastes. Good on them for encouraging that :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so rad! I really should plan another trip to London and tag along with you on your adventures (all colorful, of course). Great photos, Will!
ReplyDeleteHow fun Will!!!!! Ikea communication is unique!
ReplyDeleteI can't choose my fav boat... it's so hard..... May be black...and white ....and blue!

I love the idea of the floating market! It looks like the perfect day out for mr Bright! What a gorgeous collection :)
ReplyDeleteI wondered where you were when you posted this on instagram last week!! Seriously Ikea need to have a pop up shop full of all of these lovely items and none of the other stuff! John and i went to the croydon store on the weekend and it was stressful and so busy! (you cant see the wood from the trees!) I need to go on a week day!! xx

ReplyDeleteWhat fun Will! I'm loving the way your pants are matching perfectly with the purple boat! I think the blue boat has my vote :)

It´s Wonderful.!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun and so much eye candy. I also really like your graphic layout of all the images -- the angled lines dividing the pictures with the text below is really nice eye candy as well. Cheers - CT
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea to show off their wares, tricky to pull off with so much stuff, but looks like it was a blast.

Ooooo. I can't choose. It's a tough one between the natural and the purple boat.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome treat of a post! Thank you. xxx
All of them! I love that Ikea furniture is mostly wood so you can paint accordingly. What a cool experience!
ReplyDeleteUmmm...wow. What an awesome idea...I want to board the white boat!
ReplyDeletewhat a terrific and fun idea :-)
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that?! wow! Would love to have been on board either..
ReplyDeleteThat looked like a fab day out, and its so true about Ikea and memories, I can remember the very first visit, it was fantastic! I thought the store would never end. We came out with a children s play tent that I think I still have to this day, and that's going back at least 18 years!
ReplyDeleteI love Ikea.

ReplyDeletewoa! so cool, super jealous i want to be on the boat!
ReplyDeletewhat a fun idea..i didn't know about that!!!! you captured the images perfectly, as always!!! IKEA is in a league of its own!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Mr. Bazaar,
ReplyDeleteDo you know anything about those large colored baskets on each boat? The red one has polka-dot pillows, the white one has candlesticks inside. Do you know if they are sold via IKEA? I just scanned the website and couldn't find them.
ps. LOVE your blog! :-)
