As soon as I saw this colour clash story in Red magazine, I knew instantly that I had to share it here on Bright.Bazaar because it's a fine example of how to decorate with mix and match colours and patterns. Ironically, even though clashing prints and hues in this manner is essentially about breaking the rules, there are still guidelines you can follow to help keep the scheme looking stylish. Be sure to keep the bulk of your products (whether that's your tableware or your soft furnishings) all within the same palette. Different shades and hues, yes, but all the same colour family. Then, to add your clash twist to the scheme, throw in a decorating curveball with a contrast colour. This can be seen above with where purple is combined with a contrasting orange or green. The look has a tropical, summertime feel to it, so I rounded up some great buys to emulate the look. Which piece would you buy?

ReplyDeletethank you for sharing! I love this kind of mix & match tablescapes! We've got a mix of aqua and olive green tableware, so I think that Marimekko bowl in the pic with the vases would be a fun addition. I also really love blue and white tableware, that Rörstrand Mon Amie is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love to place my blue and white china (mainly arabia valencia) on a hot pink batik tablecloth...
ReplyDeletewow thanks for sharing will! i'm hooked on that purple and orange combo. seriously can't stop looking at it!

ReplyDeleteI lvoe coming here Will! It is such a contrast to all the Scandi blogs I read, and that is why it is so inspiring. I need to learn to mix colours!
ReplyDeleteMy mum has that yellow vase and she has had it for years. - I always thought it was hideous - its funny how things come back into fashion!! x
ReplyDeleteThis is so weird, I nearly wrote about this spread too. I did a big magazine dash yesterday to do some research and also as a rainy day activity. I saw this layout and it knocked my socks off.... so much colour and pattern. Yummy. It also fuelled part of the domestic bickering in my post about my husband interfering in design decisions.
