Colour Cocktail: The Copper Twist

Lifestyles: House & Garden, shot by Jake Curtis via The Conran Shop | Market picks: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7
Deep, dark and seductive with shimmering copper undertones The Copper Twist is the colour cocktail to order when it comes to decorating entertaining spaces. Perfect for setting a romantic and intimate mood, the marriage of a glamorous jet black back hue with a timeless copper accent works wonders in dining rooms. Be generous with your use of the noir shades, working them into the walls and furniture only breaking them occasionally with crisp white. Then, serve the space straight up with a twist of copper and caramel hues to garnish the space: in a pendant, a standalone vase, a leather chair and so on. Try this next time you redo your dining space and you'll be left wishing you'd ordered two Copper Twists straight up!

  2. I've just bought 2 pieces of art for the living room with copper and gold in them, and this has given me ideas of what else I need in the room to bring the copper together, I'm thinking an ornate frame or new floor lamp is on the shopping list

  7. I'm so pleased the high street are latching onto this trend. About 3 years ago, I saw the huge Tom Dixon copper light fixture- perfect for over a dining room table, but the price is prohibitive for me. I don't know if a dark Victorian terrace house could deal with black walls (or if I actually could) but it does look amazingly striking. Thanks for your picks! Hope your day has some bright light to it too.

  9. Justlike Lauren I was smittenby the Tom Dixon pendant when I first saw it, but unfortunately our of my price range. It is the perfect accent to my otherwise neutral colour scheme at home (white, grey, wood and a few black details). I really ike the lamp from John Lewis.

  12. I just saw your blog from 2010 on black and gold...I think pairing black and copper is even better! I once spotted a Mini Cooper in black with copper stripes....it made my day!

  13. Black and white and copper looks really good. I think it's the black wall that brings it all together though. And I love the lamp in four.

  14. Oh to own one of those Tom Dixon lights... beautiful in pretty much any setting! Love the copper tones. I think it also works really well with some colours as well as monochrome palettes - pale pastels are good with copper (esp pinks, even though that sounds like it would be totally wrong!).

  18. Is great to see you used this particular image for inspiration. I actually showed my brother this living room last week, for he needs inspiration on a camel colored interior:) The copper gives the exact right glamorous touch.
