BHG: A Woodland-Inspired Blue Christmas

Better Homes & Gardens Dec 2011 | Kelly Ryan Kegans | Photography Dana Gallagher | Styling Paul Lowe
Do you ever happen upon an editorial that you literally wish you could step into the page and live in it? Well, this happened for me when I read Paul Lowe's recent feature in the December issue of Better Homes & Gardens. Beautifully shot by Dana Gallagher the story centred around a blue-hued woodland scheme created with crafty makes and natural, organic elements. Last year, my tree was decorated with ice blue and teal baubles, so I was really inspired to see how the colour scheme could translate to a tabletop. My favourite elements of Paul's Christmas decor are the pine cones hung from the back of each chair, the DIY votives and the potted branch sideboard tree. What inspires you about this holiday scheme?

  2. Great post! I too love the white pine cones with the velvet ribbons. Looking at your post makes me want to make a wreath out of blue and white pine cones and blue velvet ribbons. Thanks for the idea!

  15. @Vanessa - Yep, you said it, he is super duper talented!

    @mikky, Designwali, Greta - His blue scheme and craft ideas have me inspired to get making, too!

    @Heather, postcards and pretties, fox and fawn, Miss Rubio - Me too, love the ones that hang from the back of each chair.

    @Rachel - Defo, I'm all about new takes on festive decor! xx

    @Jenni - She has great taste then! ;)

    @Igor - Ditto. Blue is one of my fave hues!

    @Justina - You are right, there is a slighty beachy feel. Something I wouldn't normally associate with Christmas but now you mention it I can see it here slightly and it looks fab!

    @Amanda - I agree: it's contempoary but still festive. A good balance!

    @littletree - Great - I'll see you there for a little dinner party!

  17. I love this theme! I always think of blue as pretty non-Christmassy (I have an irrational hatred of blue Christmas lights) but this all looks fantastic.

  21. This entire feature is so pretty! I really love the blue pinecones in a bowl and hanging them from ribbons on the chairs is brilliant! Since I don't have my xmas tree with me in Dubai, I'll have to opt for some simple decor that will be easy to stash away somewhere. The twig tree is cute - no trees other than palms here, but I'm sure I can hunt down some branches in a store somewhere. The blues might actually go quite well with the beach-inspired decor I've got going on. Can seashells and pinecones work together? :)
