Store Tour: Jamie Oliver's Industrial Italian

I've long been a fan of Jamie Oliver's relaxed approach to cooking; his kitchen ideology sort of matches up with the way I like to decorate - have fun with it and express the things and people you love through your decor choices. Well, as the Olympics are due to kick off this evening here in London I thought it would be fitting to give you all a tour of Jamie's new restaurant, Jamie's Italian, which is located right next to the Olympic Park. The interior was designed by Blacksheep and they've worked stacks of decorating features into the industrial space that are perfect for introducing back at home. If you have an open plan kitchen-dining area, why not zone the dining area with a chequerboard tiled flooring? Or, if you can't change the flooring, you could use subway tiles or wood panelling on the walls for a rustic-industrial look. One of the main things to do when decorating industrially like this is to work some warmth into the scheme, otherwise it can feel cold and overly harsh. At home you could do this with some tactile linens or textiles - soft drapes over the windows, or a linen covered cushion pad along a bench by the table. It's a good idea to work an accent colour into the space, too. Here, exposed wooden beams and patterned tiling have been anchored by a strong burnt orange hue. Are there any elements you would work into your home?

  2. i LOVE mixing industrial into a decor. It's edgy, timeless and chic! My problem lies in the executing. I want to have industrial pieces in my house, I just don't know where to start, primarily because I live a tiny rental. I would go to the Olympic games just to have lunch here.

    1. As you're in a rental, I'd start small: visit flea markets and garage sales to hunt out rustic, industrial pieces. You may be able to find a statement sideboard that will set the industrial tone, which you can then work pieces around over time.

  3. I love those chairs. I've been lusting over the ones that are very similar at DWR. However, we don't have the room. Hopefully someday!

  4. Love Jamie and now totally loving his store!! So jealous you UK folks have him "locally" ... we so need him here in Canada. Fantastic industrial vibe with those pendants/wall sconces, metal stairs, and how these elements contrasts with the wood beam and the sink!! What a dynamite store!!

  7. I have a special love for black and white checkered pattern on a floor!!! And those metal stools are fantastic (lucky for me I've found a store next to my office that sells some at an amazing price). I think I'm gonna get two and put poted plants on them. That'll be a start at implementing industrial elements in my condo!

  13. I adore Jamie's Italian...its one of my favourite restaurants here in London. Had no idea though one was opening up near the Olympic Park.

The loos are actually the coolest looking loos I've ever seen. The one in Canary Wharf at least...has vintage toilets, sinks...it has industrial elements to it as well AND a massive wall of various shapes and sizes of mirrors. VERY VERY cool.
