Three Ways To Quirky Kitchen Colour

It's been a while since I've done a three ways post, but I've kinda missed them, so I sat down last night and thought of quirky ways to add colour to kitchens. Up first is 'comforting retro', named for its ability to use colour to create a cosy and welcoming environment. Get the look by lavishing the insides of your retro cabinets with a matt finish, pastel coloured hue, then accent it with kitchen accessories. The second idea is to extend the colour from your cabinets across a section of your kitchen floor. The 'sleek modernity' look works best in open plan spaces where you might be keen to zone the space. Finally, achieve a 'bold country' look in your country kitchen by going for all out colour on the ceiling - it's guaranteed to create a dramatic statement. I love the retro look, but my favourite of the three is 'bold country'; which look is for you?

  1. Love the mid-century modern look of the second kitchen. That green goes remarkably well with teak furniture

  3. the pastel colors in comforting retro really appeal to me. the kitchen you featured for this example is ADORABLE and apart from the darling colors, the cabinets and appliances (hello cute scale) are simply to-die-for. :)

  5. I don't know which one I love the most! I love the idea of extending the color of the cabinets across the floor. Green is one of my favorite colors, too. It goes really well with brown. Great post!

  10. Will, I love that first kitchen. The combination of the turquoise and red (right down to the vintage casserole dishes) is pitch perfect!

I have been crazy about open cabinets lately - pretty dishware is the best part of a kitchen. And, its so practical. You can really love something and use it everyday.

  13. As much as I love the idea of the retro kitchen, my style aesthetic is far more minimal and sleek. So I think I'd have to agree with the Bold Country choice - chic, stylish and individual. And that hot pink ceiling - wow!

  14. Oh gosh I love all three of these - for different reasons! The first reminds me of Grandma, the 2nd reminds me of the 70's and early 80's and the third with the pink ceiling is just fabulously feminine!

  15. That pink ceiling is genius! I love the idea of adding colour to a rental flat kitchen by painting something a bright colour. I'm stealing that idea!
