Yesterday was all about refreshing, cool whites but today I've spun the tables and gone dark and cosy, with the inspiration courtesy of Day Birger et Mikkelsen's Home Collection lookbook. It's a veritable feast of delicious darks: silky grey hues are teamed strong black accents and accessorised with shimmering silver candlesticks and wooden surfaces. The excellent styling shows how simple textile additions can warm up these colourways - a casually laid rug provides a tactile touch to a wooden floor, whilst a collection of inviting pillows and cushions soften the somewhat industrial colour scheme. There's also inspiring ideas for autumnal decorating, such as a nonlinear art wall featuring seasonal illustrations and using a collection of candlesticks to make a statement out of an otherwise nondescript windowsill.

Cute stuff, especially the throw pillows! But I can't help but think... must. straighten. artwork.
ReplyDeletewhy does mercury glass work with rustic oh so well?
ReplyDeleteMy comments don't add a whole lot to the discussion, but I love these looks. This is totally the aesthetic I aspire to, and you always do such a great job of presenting styles.

ReplyDeleteWill, I had no idea they had a homes line. Now I'm trying to figure out something else though. I have a number of pieces by Marlene Birger and a couple of pieces by Day Birger Mikkelsen. In the "about" section they don't mention Marlene, so I guess they kept the name but she's not designing with them? I love going to their store in Copenhagen!
ReplyDeleteWhile my OCD Felix Unger ways could never do a non linear anything...I am completely blown away by the overall style of this whole look. The candle sticks are a stand out fave for me, and those pillows are just the coolest!
ReplyDeleteyou got me on this post, Will! delightful colors, blissful pictures and the styling is just perfection!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures...It feels like a country side retreat, a nice fire, cup of tea and cookies...spending the day reading a book with a nice thrown on my legs. Ok I sound like a granny but I'm always cold!
