When living in a small one bedroom apartment it's important to have multifunction spaces and areas. Somewhere that doubles up as a space to work, write, craft and cook. In my London flat I have just that: a corner of the main living space that I use for writing blog posts, catching up on emails, packing parcels, rolling out mixture for cookies, sewing and more. It works well (not to say it wouldn't be nice to have a separate space for all these things but good things come in time, right?) and I enjoy changing up the surrounding area to suit the task at hand. The corner area shown here does the same: nearby shelves stock an array of implements to suit the task at hand, task lighting is on hand as required and fresh blooms and candles are ready to sooth or inspire as one writes. The space is a fusion of country and rustic-industrial elements; the colour palette of yellow and turquoise brights grounded by paper white and silky grey hues. What do you like about this space? Do you have any multifunction spaces?
love that table!! xo
ReplyDeleteWhat do I think...???
ReplyDeleteI NEED to paint something YELLOW!
I have a sample pot of Dulux Sharp Yellow and an Ikea Bekvam Stool
lying around here somewhere......hmmmm
.................................................LoVe it all!!!

Someone else has caught the yellow loving bug! ;)
DeleteWhat's not to like about this space?! I love the industrial table, the metal baskets. The crisp white background and the pops of color. This mix of rustic and modern is a winner!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! The touch of yellow just makes a massive difference.
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow. Really warms up all that too much white. Hey Will, I love the last post on Amsterdam. Love the layout! So much fun. : )
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteThose little tiny blue bowls on the shelf are absolutely adorable! Is it weird that that is what I took away from this post?? I am such a sucker for bowls - its a real problem....

Not at all; I'm 100% addicted to buying home accessories and tableware!
DeleteI really like how lights the small space is and the pops of yellow and aqua blue do wonders. How great you got to go to Amsterdam for Eurostar, how did you like the city?
ReplyDeleteI loved it, thank you for asking. Will blog the full trip here very soon!
DeleteMy kitchen table is 100% multi function- I use it for eating, work, painting, leaving things on ;) It's the only real space like that in my small apartment!
ReplyDeleteI really love that shade of yellow, and I'm sooo eagerly waiting for spring!!
ReplyDeleteWe have a luxorious 41m2 one bedroom and a kitchen/diningroom/livingroom apartment with my spouse and a little dog. Tell me more about multifunctional spaces... :D The bedroom is only for sleeping, and rest of the action happens in the other room.
As we both love cooking and eating, the biggest challence has been in keeping the room looking more than just a kitchen. We have one long but narrow bar table with two barstools, this divides the space in two while blocking the view from sofa to the kitchen counter.
In future, I would love to have a one whole room just for my crafting. Doesn't anyone? :D
Thanks for sharing how you work your space into a multifunction area, Tiia, it was interesting to read. As for your last point? OH yes!
DeleteThis is a great space Will. Love the colours. Luckily we have quite a bit of room at our place so I don't have to be too clever and come up with multifunctional spaces :)
ReplyDeleteAbbey x
I totally agree Will, for small homes multifunctional spaces work are clever and efficient. I love that you sew! What have you been making???
ReplyDeleteWell i'm currently teaching myself how to sew because I only bought the machine recently! It's super fun!
DeleteLove this space! Love the white and the light and the pops of colour and the retro rusticness, if that's a word :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful space - really loving pops of yellow at the moment. My home is full of spaces that I use to multitask. Great to have everything at hand and within reach. x
ReplyDeleteI like the colour palette, yellow does lift the whole scheme so well, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteI've lived in small apartments/houses too and I know perfectly well the joy of multifunctional spaces...the thing I disliked most was having to clear up when I needed my table for something urgently needed (like food!) even though I hadn't finished the task at hand...
Now I do have an office/study room, but I share it with my husband since we both work from home. I still like to use my kitchen table though :)
I think it's funny how we always gravitate back to the kitchen whether it's to work, rest or entertain. One of my favourite spaces in many homes!
Deletei love the cheerful industrial look!
ReplyDeleteMy studio is also my office, so that's a big double up, and generally our kitchen is our family room, housing tv and computer (I like having our main desktop out in public where we can see and monitor the kinds of sites our son is on). To me a house feels vibrant and alive that way. I love these photos.
ReplyDeleteFun space! Love the yellow bits. We have one room in our house where we can iron clothes (ugh), listen to vinyl, read, and sew. It's crammed and not cute. Must get on that!
ReplyDeleteI love love love the mix of stark white walls with pops of color! I have a home office but oddly enough I always end up working at the dining room table. It's the epicenter of our place and I transform it into a work space every morning with the smell of fresh coffee, a good spotify playlist, and cracking the balcony door to let a warm breeze in - perfection ;)
ReplyDeleteYour multifunction space sounds divine, Sarah! Esp. the balcony/fresh coffee/playlist part. That would be all of it, then! ;)
DeleteI love the touches of yellow!

that lamp is awesome. love yellow pops.
ReplyDeleteLove! the colors in this pic
ReplyDeleteI think I'm beginning to crave a mixture of yellow and blue after following your blog! I love the open shelves with all these beautiful items. Luckily the flat we rent in Antwerp is big so there is plenty of space but I keep the dining room informal and we use it as a home office as well.
ReplyDeleteMaybe my blog should come with a colour addiction warning! ;) Your Antwerp place sounds lovely, Lisa!
DeleteMultifunctional, smart and happy! I bet your whole home is like that!
ReplyDeleteMy long farm table in the kitchen gets a lot of use. Dining, blogging, craft making, homework (that would be the kids) and staging products for photo shoots. That table is a keeper!
Hugs to you my friend.
Mon
Loving the yellow light!!
ReplyDeleteRachie xo
PS: So excited to see your place :-) x
Your blog always make me happy, I look forward to your cheerful posts and live vicariously through your travels! I love everything about this space, the colors, and those wire baskets! I am seriously addicted to wire baskets and all things industrial. I am helping a friend with an old house and these are her colors, her 11ft walls are white too. Cheers!
