Three Ways: Adding Colour To Dining Rooms

I couldn't resist but brighten up these now all too familiar dark days with some colourful ideas for accessorising in the dining room. The dining room is a really great place to experiment with colour, especially with bolder hues, as you don't have to live with it all day, everyday. First up, why not experiment with your tabletop linens? By adding colour in this way through textiles you can swap out different designs and colours as you wish. The lemon hues seen here are perfect for livening up the dusky pink hue of the walls. Alternatively, you could turn your attention to the upholstery around the dining table. In the second space we can see how a nautical-inspired stripe fabric adds graphic colour to the all white space. Finally, if you want to add a surprise addition of colour then the third space is for you. Pulling out a chair for a guest to reveal this hot pink hue will give instant wow factor. Be sure to protect your dining room with home insurance. Which colourful dining room idea do you like best?

  2. I love the idea of contrasting or highlighting chair legs for that 'surprise' touch!
    We have a deep burgundy painted feature wall in our dining room and I always love its effect. A bit dated I suppose but it works for me!

  5. Although I love the upholstery & paint, I have to say the most versatile example is the tablecloth. Whether it is a tablecloth, china or accessories the easiest way to brighten a room is with pieces that can easily come and go with the mood or season. Thanks for the inspiration!

  12. @Laurie, Rachel - Aren't they just; the bold mix of blue and red work so well.

    @Maryann - If it works for you then that's the key! :)

    @Morgan, Hannah, Banebakken - I know, such a fun idea, right?!

    @Jackcynredesign - Yep, it's true, linens are a fab way to bring a new feel to a dining space.

    @Camille - I often use fabric instead of buying tablecloths, like you say they can be so expensive!

    @Sarah - I'm so excited to see!

    @Maria - I'd love to see your chairs if you do decide to reupholster them!

    @The Old School Market - Sounds fun! I think the yellow dip dye works so well with the black accents.

  28. Totally agree with this - used a tablecloth on our white high gloss table for the first time this weekend for the halloween party and was so surprised at the impact it made to the room. It looked so cosy - will be doing it again for sure!
