With the holidays fast approaching and numerous entertaining dates in the calendars, I think that the second weekend in November is an ideal time to focus on getting organised. Personally I love a good sort out: clearing out drawers, finding a place to store newly acquired items, getting all my linens in order and stocking up on household essentials. Around this time of year growing up, I would always help my mum to get our place in order ready for the busy festive season ahead. We would start by making up guest baskets in advance of visitors coming to stay. I filled wire baskets with freshly laundered towels and essential toiletries, and sometimes included a scented candle for visitors to light in the guest bedroom when they arrived. After refreshing the guest bedroom with new linen, I would ensure the home office had plenty of wrapping supplies and stationery for wrapping presents. So, in honour of this tradition, I plan to spend time nesting this weekend and preparing my place for busy times ahead. What do you do to prepare your home for the holidays?

ReplyDeleteLove the white decorating. It's refreshing. I love color too though, but white at home is luxurious. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeletere-organizing sounds great. the christmas season will start next weekend for me with getting christmas stuff out and planning what goes where. i already made a christmas gift list so i know a bit who is getting what... and then the first advent weekend i will have a little get-together with my girlfriends for an advent-teatime, 'til then everything needs to be in full christmas swing ;-) i wish i could have some glimpses into your christmas season, it sure will be inspiring. have a great weekend Will. btw the pictures are fantastically chosen as always.

Organizing & cleaning is something I enjoy doing, and it does help me get ready for guests and the holidays. ;)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree this is the perfect time to get started on all the holiday preparations. It'll be here before we know it! Where did the year go anyway?! xo

ReplyDeleteOooooh how I'd love to spend the weekend giving our house a good clean and sort in preparation for the holiday season. We have some family functions though.... followed by some bathroom demolition on Sunday. So I guess for now, our home will only get more out of sorts!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend Will!! :)
Ahh, Will. That's precisely what I'm aiming to do this weekend. Get bloody organized! Thanks for the encouragement ;)

me too, will! thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI just love the thought of this - since I'm a bit of an organization freak myself, the idea of perfectly-arranged baskets with all that your guests need to feel welcome is pure perfection.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I am doing the exact same thing this weekend! My momma taught me the beauty of the guest basket ;) Another thing that always helps me is literally making a map for Thanksgiving and putting it with a folder where I keep placecards, recipes, etc. I'm going to post my map on my blog Monday. Nerd, I know!
ReplyDeleteyes, a bit of a lingering pause before the storm. i've just been thinking about filling our pantry with food! but getting the house in order before the holidays sounds very smart. if only it would stay that way. x

And thanks for featuring the photo of our little reading room! :-D (It's the one in the upper left corner of the collage in this post) It looks like it's linking to the wrong site right now, so I thought I'd give you a heads up on that! :-) You can find us at TheLetteredCottage.net.
