This is how our place looked when we bought it - lots of wood which my guy loved, but since we spend more time here in summer than winter, I wanted more of a beach cottage look so slowly the wood is being white-washed and painted. I've left the ceiling as a pine ceiling as a compromise which he is very happy about and I find that now that most of the rest of the wood is lightened, I don't hate the pine ceiling as much as I did :)
