{Hunkydory home interview and giveaway}

I've been lucky enough to gain lots of new followers recently, which has made me really happy! Thanks to all of you who have signed up, commented, followed, or even just dropped by to check out this little blog, I really do appreciate it.

Since I started blogging, Alison from Hunkydory Home has always been a big supporter of Bright.Bazaar, so I was delighted when she agreed to let me have a sneak peak inside her home and chat about her inspirations. Hunkydory Home stocks a host of wonderfully colourful home accessories, and the store's products are never far from the glossy pages of the monthly home magazines. My favourite product at the moment is this Paris cushion for it's fun and colourful nature. Alison's story of how she built up her business is really inspiring. Here you can read about her interior tastes, her quirky online interiors business and flying green ducks in her living room...

How would you describe your interior style?

Colourful and eclectic; I don't follow trends. Instead, I just like to surround myself with things that make me feel happy.

Do you have any pet hates when it comes to interiors?

The 'neutralising' of homes a la the 'House Doctor' - the trend for painting everything magnolia and everyone having beige/brown/cream furniture and accessories - I just feel it's such a dull environment to live in. I think your home should reflect your personality.

What interior tips would you give to the Bright.Bazaar readers?

Fill your home with things you love, don't worry about what people will think - it's not a show home, it's your home. If you want bright green ducks flying up your living room wall, like me, then go for it!

What inspires you?

I spent my early years in Norway and have always loved Scandinavian design. I love pattern, colour and children's design. I follow a lot of blogs online and love trawling the pages of Etsy to see the fabulous creations people come up with.

What do you like about spring?

Leaving the long nights and cold weather behind, and being able to get outside again. I love spring because of the sense of a new beginning and the feeling of starting afresh again.

What encouraged you to start up Hunkydory Home?

I was working in an interior designers where all the products we sold were traditional and not to my taste. One day I was looking for a lampshade and couldn't find anything I liked so I decided to make one myself. Next I started selling them on Ebay and after they proved popular, I set up Hunkydory Home. At first I just stocked lampshades and cushions, but now I stock a whole range of handmade and design-led home accessories.

What is the best and worst thing about running your own business?

The best thing is being my own boss, for sure! The worst thing is never switching off, but that's probably worse for my family than for me as I love everything to do with my business!

You've done so well to build up the business from nothing; what's your proudest achievement to date?

I always feel very proud when I see our products in the press, particularly when it's something I've made myself.

Finally, you stock such a diverse range of homewares, but do you have a favourite?

That's so difficult! But if I had to choose, then I would go for the Black Cat Clock. We have it in our kitchen - the swishing pendulum tail is so fun!

Ok, so it's giveaway time! To be in with a chance of winning one of the clocks shown below (worth £44.00 each!) just choose one of the four colour options. Then leave a comment explaining which coloured clock you would choose, where you would put it your home and why. I'll randomly pick a winner from all the comments posted by 6:00pm on Friday 5th March. I can't wait to hear where you would choose to put these clocks in your home. (EU entrants only, sorry!)

T's and C's: I'm afraid this giveaway is open to EU residents only, due to shipping charges, but I hope to offer a USA giveaway soon! The winner will be decided by random.org when the competition closes at 6:00pm UK time on Friday 5th March. Only one entry per reader, please. The clock cannot be exchanged for cash or any other item.

  1. my favourite one is the white... I am thinking about puting it on my brand new studio, at home... I think it would fit perfect with the table (white) and the shelves (beech wood)!! ^_^

  2. My favorite one is the blue one. I will put it into my bathroom (currently with no clock)to be able to be on time with out being stressed. The wood will bring serenity, plus the "nature touch" that I love very much. The blue shades will perfectly match the different blue shades from our bathroom.

  3. I would def go for the orange/yellow. I'm just about to remodel with a high gloss fire engine red kitchen and this would compliment perfectly.

Also - loved the Great Bear print in the pics

  4. I'd go for the blue one as it would perfectly compliment my current colour scheme in the bedroom. It would really set off a print I have on the wall which is made up of various shades of blue.

    It's a beautiful item.

  5. Definitely the green one for my Irish Roots. I love Alisons decor she has the same Coffee Pot as I do. It looks a warm happy home.

Thank you both for the opportunity to win

  6. I would love the blue one as we are moving into a new house this weekend that has a very 'by-the-sea' feel to it. It would be perfect in my new sunny kitchen.

  7. I would choose the blue one and I would put it in my 4 year old sons bedroom, he has just learnt to tell the time and knows not to come into mummy's room untill the little hand is on the 7!!

  8. I like them all, but I would choose the orange/yellow. It would match my kitchen decor exactly, so I would put it there.

  11. oh the green for me, to remind me of what grass looked like before this winter of snow!

  12. I love the blue one! In theory, my favourite colour is green and green tends to make its way into my wardrobe more often than not, but since buying and starting to furnish my *own* home, where I have (almost!) a completely free hand, blue pops up everywhere - the palest blue/grey in the bathroom, smoky blue velvet in the sitting room, even the baby's Stokke highchair is a gorgeous distressed blue with a lime green baby rail that I added.

I love the combination of blue and lime in particular.

Very glad to have come across your blog - thank you for following me on Twitter!

  13. I've gotta have the green clock - perfect for my sewing room where time tend to dissapear . . .

    ReplyDelete
  14. I like the orange and yellow one - it would hang in my kitchen and inspite me to sing while I cook. In fact I'm now humming "Oranges and lemons" so it's already working.

  15. I love the Hunkydory range - great products!

I would choose the blue one - purely because both my hubby and son love blue!
It would go in our Dining room/office so we won't be late changing from one use to the other (tea is always late!)

  16. I love the luscious green one.

I would put it in my kitchen, taking pride of place on the wall.

I used to have a kitchen clock, but it died about 3 months ago. It was a handy little fella: telling the time, when to go to work, when to go to bed, when to take the cakes out of the oven.

I thought it was just the batteries, but after replacing them twice in one week, I realised that Mr Clock was seriously ill and I had to let go.

That was 3 months ago. I feel I'm ready to embrace a new Mr Clock in my kitchen, and hope that you can see that I'm offering a kind, warm loving home, with cake :)

  17. The white one!

Due to move in to mine and boyfs first home in 2 weeks and it will take pride of place in the newly refurbished kitchen! As we dont have much to fill our new home this will be the perfect kitchen christener and be extra special.

  18. Definitely the sunshine-like yellow and orange one!

It would take a pew with the drawings, paintings and prints on our art wall in the living room as it looks so good and is a functional time teller too :)

  19. thanks for visiting my blog.
and i'll be sure a reader of yours!

  20. Ooh - orange/yellow for me please! Love how those colours are so springlike and happy. Think I'd put it in our spare room as it has a great view to the garden and the pale wood would help bring nature more inside.

PS - I'm one of those new followers, really love your blog, such happy colours every day :)

  21. Oooh, the white one, please!

This is because I'e just bought my first flat and have no idea what colour I'm going to paint the currently pretty rancid kitchen!

  22. That's a really lovely clock and would look great in my kitchen I like the blue the best.

  23. Thw white one is the one I would pick as I have a tendency to move things around this would be perfect in any room.

I love the staircase done in all different colours absolutely fantastic as soon as I saw it it made me smile :-)

  24. It's got to be the blue clock and it will go into my kitchen, where I currently have a horrid old plastic clock. Did I mention that my kitchen is blue???

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would like to win the white one. It would go into my daughter's room as she is just starting to learn to tell the time.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oooh, the orange one would go really well on the bright blue walls in my bedroom!

    ReplyDelete
  27. the green one as I am trying to be more enviromently friendly and recycle more and this would go in the hall and then I would see the time and remember my green wishes for the year!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'd go for the green one to put in my kitchen/diner. It would look a lot classier than the cheap white plastic kitchen clock that's currently hanging on the wall.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would love the green one. The natural wood finish of the face will complement our light brown colourscheme and the Mexican throw on the sofa. The accent green will pick out the accent green cushions I have.

But more to the point, if I won it would mean that I would have a clock in the living room, therefore the clock on the oven wouldn't be the only one in the house, which can be annoying, especially since my watch broke a couple of weeks ago and I haven't been able to find a new one!!

  30. These are absolutely gorgeous clocks and if i was lucky enough to win, i'd have to choose the white one because i've hunted high and low for the perfect clock to go in my living room since it was decorated and until i stumbled upon these, i'd had no luck! Plus, if i won the white one,i could take it up to bed at night and it would also match my bedroom! lol x

  31. I would love the white one to hang in my grandson's nursery, would help me with the feeding times instead of using the tiny clock that I have trouble seeing the time.
It will also look fab because it will go with the decor.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i'd go for green for my son's room as it's his favourite colour (and the one clock he does have in there is propped up on his bookshelf!)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I would go for the green one. This would look lovely in my nearly-finished kitchen - would go perfectly and may encourage my hubby to finish the project off!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hey..definately the green one for me : - )) i love green and have just painted a big green feature wall in my new kitchen/diner. Its ready and waiting for my eclectic mix of wooden frames, full of all my favorite family snaps. This clock would look fab in amongst them, and i lost my last funky green clock in a kitchen fire so its much needed!!

thanks for this blog, its a great inspiration. keep up the good stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would choose the White clock as it's simply elegant and modern! I would put it in my kitchen to put an end to burnt dinners! (the family would love this function!!)
    love it!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would choose the blue one and put it in the living room as there's currently no clock and i'm often late leaving for work because i don't know what time it is.....

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'd go for the green as that's my favourite colour and I need a new cook clock for my sewing room so I know what time I have to stop sewing and get my 2 year old up for lunch!

    ReplyDelete
  38. It would have to be the white one as it has a such a restrained classic feel about it. I would put it in the kitchen because even when I was really busy I think looking at it would be calming!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I would have the blue one for my bathroom - it might make my kids go a little faster in the mornings!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love the blue one. I would put it in my sons room as he does not have a clock and hes always asking what time it is

    ReplyDelete
  41. decisions, decisions, but I think the blue one. I love the interview and your house looks very stylish.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would like the orange and yellow one inspired by the bunch of daffodils I've just put on display in my sunny kitchen! Our living area is open plan with a combination of bright fun colours so I'd put the clock on the back wall in a space there is between my kitchen floating shelves and my bookshelves in the dining area.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Orange and yellow... because the colour yellow just always makes me feel so happy. A simple answer I know but true!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm Peagreen PR so would have to be the green one.
I work from home and have just painted one of my office walls a lovely peagreen colour.
Loving it and very serene - so much so that I've been late for everthing all week!
Now need lovely green clock to place on my new wall to keep me on time!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I would go for the blue one as blue is my son's favourite colour. He is learning to tell the time, and hasn't got a clock in his room yet, so I'd definitely hang it in his room.

    ReplyDelete
  46. orange/yellow as wd fit my colour scheme

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think i could have any of them in my house, they`re all lovely, and would brighten up my house.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I love the blue one, it would go perfectly in my kitchen.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It would be the clock with the white arms as this would go with the decor of any room, which means i can move it around the house without it looking out of place xx

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thank you to everyone who entered - it's been lovely hearing about what you would do with one of the four clocks. The lucky winner was Sarah from Natural History. Congratulations, Sarah!
