It's been used to decorate many an industrial bakery, cafe and bar but it been yet to take a prominent position across mainstream decorating stores. I am of course talking about exposed lighting, which has been enjoying a steady resurgence in popularity over the past year or so. No surprise then that big brand decorating stores on both sides of the Atlantic - namely West Elm and John Lewis - are embracing the trend, with filament lighting featuring across both of their Autumn/Winter and Fall collections. I think the look works best in multiples - cluster together a series of simple, drop pendants or line up a trio of table lamps along a sideboard, using different shape bulbs to add interest. I've added a Calex bulb to my photographic standard lamp, which gives off a warm, smoky brown hue - I love how the light dances upon the metallic surface. Have you ever used exposed bulbs for your lighting?
While I love the look, particularly in industrial rooms I do find it funny that only a few years ago everyone went to a lot of effort to cover the old exposed lightbulb. Now, with the advent of energy efficient funnily shaped bulbs, everyone has developed a sudden and all-embracing love for the old round style!
ReplyDeleteI love bare bulbs ... (I've just realized that sounds kinda dirty, huh?) LOL
ReplyDeleteyou make the most casual of things grand! i love it!
ReplyDeleteThomas Edison would be so proud! I'm liking this trend.
ReplyDeletei've noticed the trend too and especially love the look over a dining table or over an island or bar in a kitchen. xx
ReplyDeleteI do like them but I think to get impact you need to hang them in a bunch, otherwise it can look like you simply haven't put on the lamp shade.
ReplyDeleteI also love the coloured wire flex that you can get too.

I love the look especially for a kitchen or dining area! Very industrial chic. I love a silver dipped bulb - just one in a simple white ceramic surround is a great alternative to a traditional sconce!
