Three Ways To Style Up A Bedroom

Given we spend almost half our life in our bedroom, it's worth while investing in the space for ultimate comfort and style - a style that suits our personal taste and vibe. I've pulled together three bedroom schemes using products from HomeMint. Up first is Beach Vibe, with a gentle nod to coastal style this bedroom consists of fresh, crisp whites interspersed with graphic stripes and linen textures with red and blue details. The second, Relaxed Loft, is an altogether different space, one that marries masculine and feminine tones: jet black bedding in a loose fit linen creates this vibe. The low-level bed and casually propped up art works is perfect for this warehouse-style loft space. The third and final bedroom, Rustic Romantic, is another fusion of styles. The overarching romantic theme created by soft white linens and gentle grey walls, is given an offbeat edge thanks to the metal bedstead and Tolix chair. I would add a rustic console table and some bright textiles to keep this space feeling current. On balance, my favourite is Beach Vibe but which of these HomeMint bedroom schemes takes your vote, folks?

Colour Palette: A Black & White Bathroom

I'm a huge advocate for using black when decorating because I think of it as a seductive, intriguing and all together more interesting 'neutral' than it's softer counterparts. Why do I refer to it as a neutral? Because it's an ideal background 'canvas' hue for layering in other hues into your scheme. You can see how I layered in yellow and tangerine colours to a black canvas in my old bedroom. Back to this bathroom and we can see how the use of black upon the walls adds drama, yet maintains a fresh feel thanks to its pairing with a gloss white subway tile. When I painted with black in my bedroom, I didn't find it cold, in fact it was cosy and enveloping if anything. However, this bathroom is a very different space, with lots of reflective, cool white surfaces which paired with the black could feel quite cool. You can easily warm up this paring with a few accent hues: introduce zesty greenery and uplifting yellow and Geranium pink in the form of tactile textiles. This bathroom is a real winner in Mr. B's book, but what do you like about it?

Home Tour: Colourful Country, Scandi Style

Well, it's official, I've properly fallen slap bang in love with Katti Grönstedt's home in Österlen, Sweden. Her delicate and tasteful use of colour against the soothing palette of whitewashed wood is a real winner in my book. Katti's home is an intriguing mix of eras and designs as she effortlessly pairs personal heirlooms and flea market finds with newer pieces from the likes of IKEA. Despite there being several different themes to the home (look closely and you'll spot folk elements, New England style and Moroccan pieces) there's still a synergy to the space. For me, the three standout areas are the kitchen, dining area and terrace. The kitchen's country colourful look makes me beam from ear-to-ear and I love how it's both stylish and practical with all her kitchenwares on display and easy to access. As for the dining room? Well, I dream of one day having a home with enough space to create such a lovely area for entertaining, working and chatting with friends. The soft sky blue hue of the dining table is the perfect accent to the rough, weathered chairs around it. Notice how Katti has continued accents of blue throughout most areas of the home - it's little decor additions like this that help with the synergy of the overall home. Finally, the terrace looks like my ideal summer hideout. With the billowing white linens, Moroccan lanterns, yellow chairs and zesty fabric print textiles, Mr. Bazaar would feel right at home! Tell me, what do you like about Katti's country colourful home in Sweden?

Colour Palette: Statement Ceiling

If you're thinking of ways you might be able to introduce bold and bright hues to your home this week's Colour Palette is for you. Here we can see how this space remains fresh and airy despite the raspberry coloured statement ceiling. This bold introduction of colour works well because it doesn't dominate what is a relatively small space yet makes it stacks more interesting than an all white scheme. The key takeaway here is to pick a communal or walk through space such as a hallway or a landing, where you will be able to be more adventurous with your choice of hue.

Designers Guild Jinshi Tabletop Collection

I literally gasped when I first set eyes on this new tabletop collection from Designers Guild. In an instant I felt transported to an exotic Greek isle, soaked in sunshine glittering upon azure blue waters and infinite clear blue skies. OK, so I like to dream but isn't that what homewares are meant to do: transport us to a place of comforting calm and indulgence? There's no denying my love for blue hues; my wardrobe is continually dominated by shades from an diverse collection of blue hues, as is my home. The Jinshi porcelain and Cobalt linen collections combine beautifully to create a summer tabletop that oozes magical Mediterranean style. The watercoloured brushstrokes add interest to the delicate blue lines, making it easy to mix and match pieces from across the range but also existing pieces as well. All that's left to do now is to throw a summer dinner party!

A Seaside Themed Summer Party

As the mercury rises and the temperatures too, why not venture outside to create a little seaside in your backyard? It's a great time of year to invite your friends over and party all afternoon long under the heat of the summer sun. Even if you're not by the seaside you can recreate the look and feel of a nautical escape with the right buys. Start by creating a palette of red and blue hues as these colours alone are a nod to all things nautical. Next, mix in some anchor motifs and fish-shaped plates to really create that seaside feel. Pull the look together with strong pattern, perhaps in an outdoor rug laden with pillows or even a stripe parasol. Then all that's left to do is invite over your best friends and party 'till sundown! Which of these nautical picks do you like best?

Cool Grey: French Connection Home

Ah, I do love it when a brand gets their neutrals on point - French Connection's latest homeware collection is a case in point. Offering an array of cool grey textiles, milky white ceramics and textured wooden pieces, the line is just how I like my neutrals to be. Admittedly, I wouldn't furnish a whole space with their pieces (Mr. Bazaar always needs a few brighter hues added to the mix) but I definitely would choose to add elements of this collection to my existing schemes. So, I'd happily snap up the beautiful grey bedlinen (above) but I'd give it a Bright.Bazaar update with a striped yellow throw or a neon pink throw pillow. Something that's a little left of centre would bring the look right in line with my overall interiors aesthetic. You might recognise the beautiful glass vases (above) from my Design market page in the summer issue of Sweet Paul? I felt it was perfectly showed how to cool down with grey hues this summer. What pieces are standing out to you? I'm falling harder for those washed mango table lamps with every passing minute...!

Sneak Peek: Heart Home Mag, Summer 2012

The new issue of Heart Home magazine is set to launch next week, but if you head over to their website today and sign up to the newsletter you can see a preview of the magazine ahead of time. Pretty fun, right?! To give you a little taster I'm sharing some of my favourite tear sheets from the issue, which is a visual feast of summertime inspirations. The first is the delightful kitchen-diner in Henny Tate's remote country cottage. I love the bench seating along the dining table and the weathered soft mint chairs. Rebecca and Mark Partridge's beach house is a lesson in how to achieve a cool, calm and texture-packed space for the summer months - I love the metal and wood materials against the white washed bricks. Finally, the wedding styling story had my cooing at my screen, for both the organic, rustic and summer bright schemes. What's inspiring you from this sneak peek, friends?

Store Tour: Kerbisher & Malt, London

Replicate It items: Chair | Pendant | Type stickers
I've driven past this Fish & Chip restaurant in West London a few times, always thinking to myself how awesome the interior looked from the street. Last night I was browsing the entries for the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards and I as soon as I happened upon the entry for Kerbisher & Malt I knew it looked familiar. Designed by Alexander Waterworth Interiors, the space has a utilitarian and industrial feel to it. This atmosphere is created by the wall of subway tiles, fisherman lanterns and Tolix stools. My favourite detail is the typographical menu created with wall stickers on the wall of subway tiles. The blue exterior is pretty rockin' as well. What do you like about this space?

Happy Weekend: Breakfast Nook Colour

OK, let's chat ideal weekends, shall we? Of course, I like to start my day in colourful surroundings, so this breakfast nook would be ideal. A combination of zesty yellow, green and orange accent hues against a refreshing white base palette equals a winning space, ideal for a leisurely breakfast. I'd enjoy a bowl of fresh fruit whilst browsing the weekend papers, before popping to the farmer's market to pick up supplies for that evening's dinner. I'd return home to cook up a new dish before relaxing with a great friends and a good movie. What do you do to relax on the weekend, friends? Have a good one!

Colour Cocktail: The Monochrome Magic

This colour cocktail is a timeless classic. A fail-safe combination that magically always works. It sees varying shades of black combine to create striking schemes worthy of the glossiest of shelter publications. This monochrome interior holds an eternal style card; an everlasting trump card, continually outlasting the latest trend or must-have styles. Here we see the scheme at work in a home office space, where jet black hues have been used in matt finishes to maintain a masculine feel - adding in gloss surfaces would soften the look. Meanwhile, graphic pattern is used as this lends itself well to a striking black and white colour palette, which all helps to create the monochrome magic. I'm so excited to see Colour Cocktail return - cheers, friends!

Elle Decoration: Rustic Blue Hues

Elle Decoration
I really enjoyed Red's take on the blue and white colour scheme for summer (think sun-soaked azure, sapphire and turquoise hues against a backdrop of brilliant white Greek buildings) but Elle Decoration's take on the colour duo is equally as appealing. In fact, this more rustic approach is a more adaptable palette as we head towards fall. Rustic linens and tactile textures in midnight blue and deep navy shades make the scheme warmer and not as saturated; whites, too, are cooled down into creamer shades. There's no denying that a classic blue and white stripe - saturated or not - provides instant style. I also enjoyed the flashes of burnt orange hues seen in their 'decorating' and 'homes' sections. What do you like about this rustic take on the classic blue and white scheme?
